During the presentations in class I heard that the United States is home t o 5% of the world’s population, yet it consumes 26% of the world’s energy. I think its crazy how much energy we use and take for granted. I think someone should do a senior project about this. I think we need to really spread the word about how much energy we use because it’s crazy how much energy we use.
Another good idea to do a senior project on is food waste, Americans throw away on average 1.3 pounds of food a day or 474.5 pounds per person. It’s sad that there are so many people that can’t afford much food, yet we throw away so much that could feed a family in need. I started looking up statistics and I found that for the price of one missile, a school full of hungry children could eat lunch every day for 5 years, and that every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes--one child every five seconds. After reading what I found on the internet it makes me feel so grateful for the food I have. I think this would be a cool senior project because you’re spreading the word to help reduce your waste, and by helping bring awareness to world hunger.

I thought that the energy presentation was mind blowing as well! I would like to know more about what you want to do for your senior project and if any of the presentations had anything to do with your choice of topic. I like how you shared how you felt about the presentations and you researched further about waste. Maybe you should do your senior project (if you don't already know what your doing) on waste in a specific area :)
ReplyDeleteGreat blog!
ReplyDeleteI think is this really informative, since you include facts along with what you want to do your senior project on.
The next step toward deciding your senior project is to narrow down your choices. You have several (two) ideas, and they are both good. So once you find which on you want to use, give it a go! Have fun :)!
How would you show off to your audience, and make them interested in Americans waist? Its sad, but what motivation will you instill in them to want to change?
ReplyDeleteI think that whatever you read, it obviously changed your mind, so if you used the same tactics, that may be the same way your audience will respond as well.

Nice, I really like all of the statistics, especially the new ones you found! You mention how you think people need to spread the word about world hunger and energy usage so I think you should add ways you and other people can help with energy efficiency and how people can spread the word.
