Senior Project Entry
Another good idea to do a senior project on is food waste, Americans throw away on average 1.3 pounds of food a day or 474.5 pounds per person. It’s sad that there are so many people that can’t afford much food, yet we throw away so much that could feed a family in need. I started looking up statistics and I found that for the price of one missile, a school full of hungry children could eat lunch every day for 5 years, and that every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes--one child every five seconds. After reading what I found on the internet it makes me feel so grateful for the food I have. I think this would be a cool senior project because you’re spreading the word to help reduce your waste, and by helping bring awareness to world hunger.

Plant Research
I would like to plant violas because I think they are really interesting, I like how there are 3 colors in the flower. I think this flower will be aesthetically pleasing. A viola is a type of flower; they are primarily cool season bloomers. They are easy to start from seeds, they should being to germinate in 10 to 14 days. Violas begin blooming about 12-14 weeks after planting seeds. Mounding violas should be spaced about 6-8 inches apart. Trailing or spreading varieties can be planted 10-12 inches apart. Violas grow best in rich moist well-drained soil with organic matter. We should water the flower regularly but allow it to dry out between waterings. The Viola likes full sun but not the heat. We should make sure they get shade during the hottest part of the afternoon, but mulch and water will make up for the high temperature. An interesting fact about the Viola is that they are edible; they can be eaten in salads, and can be used to decorate cakes
I would also like to plant this flower; the daisy is one of my favorite flowers. I really like the colors of this flower, I like how there’s a lot of variety in colors I can choose from. Daisies are a type of flower. Daisies are mostly grown in the spring/summer but in cold weather you can provide a thick layer of mulch for protection. The flower can be grown easily; daisies are commonly grown from seeds. When you plant daisies you should choose a sunny location. Before planting you should add a lot of manure and compost so the soil can become rich. You should plant the seeds 9 to 12 inches apart. Water the plant regularly when it gets dry outside. You should also add a general purpose fertilizer in the early growth stage, and once a month afterwords. Interesting facts about the daisies are the leaves are edible you can add the leaves to salads. Also the Daisy symbolizes innocence.
